My 100 Best Images of 2011
When I started pulling together some of my favourite images from my collection in 2011, I came upon a couple of realizations. First, I have so much to be thankful for. This was a year of beauty in every aspect. I don’t ask for much out of this life except for my family to be taken care of and happy, to feel inspired, and to feel like I’m living every day to its fullest. When I look at this year, I feel like I have that, yet so much more. Second, I feel like I have grown a lot over the past couple years with my body of work and the diversity to that body. Looking at these images I realize that I’m a bit of a wanderer: I’m intrigued by all areas of photography. Finally, when I quit my fulltime job three years ago to pursue my dream, I feel, every day, like it should be. This is me. These images are me. But they mean nothing without you.

“August Adrift” is my favourite – I already have a copy (9/25) framed and hanging on my wall. I love everything about it – colours, silouettes, reflections in the water, stars, this particular shot speaks to my soul……
Seeing the Aurora Borealis in person has now been firmly added to my travel itinery wish list.

Beautiful, shocking, humbling, heroic, breathtaking……. You make me want to grab my camera and run out the door in hopes to get one shot that would compare. Thank you for being so generous with your photographs and what it took to get “the shot”

Hey there, Dave:
Beautiful work, here. Your photography explores life as chronicle and in terms of creative expression. There’s good energy and good presence to your subject as you capture images. Your ability to encourage people’s participation within your photographs is definitely a gift – good!
I listened via podcast as Kyle Thomas interviewed you (KyleWith.com) and have heard references to you by others Kyle has interviewed. Living in High Level, Alberta and working for the Fort Vermilion School Division, I’ve found people from Fort Vermilion who recognize your family name – your photography is a good Northern connection to know about and pass along.
I hope you’ll let us know about workshops you’ll lead in the upcoming year – Yellowknife is not so very far away.
Again, beautiful work.
